Friday, July 20

The Academy presents “Pillow Talk” (1959) starring Doris Day at dusk as part of its Oscars Outdoors summer series at 1341 Vine. Tickets are $5.00.

Actor/director Martin Donovan will present “Collaborator” (2011) at the Steven Spielberg at the Egyptian tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.  Admission is $11.00. The film continues through July 26 at 6712 Hollywood Blvd.

“Hara-kiri: Death of a Samurai” (2012), a Cannes Palme D’Or nominee, is playing in 3D at the Downtown Independent at 251 S. Main through Aug. 2. Check times. Tickets are 12.00.

A restored print of Shirley Clarke’s controversial “The Connection” (1961), about New York junkies and jazz, will air at the New Beverly through July 26 for $8.00. Check times.

Saturday, July 21

Street Food Cinema will host a free screening of “Little Miss Sunshine” (2006) and a sneak preview of “Ruby Sparks” (2012) at Exposition Park in front of the Coliseum at dusk. Directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will attend.

A rare screening of “Don’t Bother to Knock” (1952) starring Marilyn Monroe will take place at the Egyptian, preceded by a book-signing and introduction by biographer Christopher Nickens at 1:00 p.m.

Underground auteur Damon Packard and cast will appear at the Egyptian for a screening of “Foxfur” (2012) and “SpaceDisco One” (2007) at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $11.00.

Actor Dennis Christopher and director Peter Yates’ son Toby will appear in person for “Breaking Away” (1979) at the Cinefamily at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $12.00 at 611 Fairfax.

The Academy presents “The Karate Kid” (1984) starring Ralph Maccio at its open air theater on Homewood between Vine and Ivar at dusk for $5.00.

Devil’s Night Drive In presents “The Princess Bride” (1987) amid downtown high rise buildings at 250 W. 4th St. at dusk for $10.00.

“Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (1978) starring Donald Sutherland will screen at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. at dusk. This Cinespia event costs $10.00.
